Sika has subsidiaries in 102 countries around the world and, in over 400 factories, produces innovative technologies for customers worldwide. In doing so, it plays a crucial role in enabling the transformation of the construction and vehicle industries toward greater environmental compatibility. In 2025, Sika’s 33,700 employees generated annual sales of CHF 11.20 billion (£10.35 bn).
In the UK and Ireland, we provide market-leading solutions for building finishing, concrete, waterproofing, roofing, flooring, refurbishment, sealing & bonding, and industry, and have manufacturing sites in Welwyn Garden City, Preston, Leeds, Wishaw, Redditch, Goole and Dublin with 1000 employees and a turnover of more than £306 million.
Sika® NatureRoof Green Roof Systems have been designed to transform ordinary rooftops into thriving ecosystems. These systems incorporate multiple layers, including drainage, water retention, and vegetation, to support diverse plant growth and sustain wildlife. The result is a self-sustaining microhabitat that integrates seamlessly into the urban fabric.
All Sika® NatureRoof Green Roof Systems comply with the Building Regulations fire performance requirements and the GRO Green Roof Code of Best Practice.

Services
Supplier of Green, Blue and BioSolar Roof Systems
Creating a Sika® NatureRoof Green Roof or a Sika® NatureRoof PV BioSolar Green Roof involves selecting the appropriate components to meet various needs, including water retention, growing medium type, and planting methods. A range of complementary accessories is also chosen based on the roof’s location, topography, and ecological or biodiversity requirements. These products all fall within the Sika® NatureRoof product offer and guarantee.
Sika can also supply the required components for a Sika® SolarRoof, including a lightweight aluminium Solar PV framing system engineered by K2 Systems with the innovative SikaRoof® Anchor mounting system. This provides the option of a Sika guarantee to cover both the roofing system and PV mounting system.
Drainage Boards
SikaRoof® Drainage Layers are cuspated (egg box) boards that provide both drainage and water retention in a Sika® NatureRoof build-up. They come in a variety of depths that hold differing amounts of rainwater to suit the specification requirements based on regional, topographical, ecological and biodiversity requirements. They are installed directly over the Sika® Roof Waterproofing System or a SikaRoof® Protection Layer, where required.
Growing mediums / Substrates
SikaRoof® Substrates are matched to the type of green roof being designed (Extensive, Intensive or Biodiverse). They provide building regulations fire performance compliance and a basis for plant growth once installed above the SikaRoof® Filter Fleece. All SikaRoof® Substrates are tested to BS8616: Standardising high performing green roof substrate.
Fleeces
SikaRoof® Filter Fleeces come in a variety of weights (g/m2) to suit specific application requirements. They are used to separate the green roof substrate (growing medium) from the underlying SikaRoof® Drainage Layer drainage/reservoir board, preventing fine particles from entering into the drainage system. All Sika® NatureRoof Fleeces meet the requirements of FLL 2018 and ÖNORM L 1131:2010.
Products
Sika® NatureRoof Sedum Extensive Green Roof systems
Sika® NatureRoof Sedum Extensive Green Roof systems replicate the aesthetics and biodiversity benefits of a ground level Sedum meadow at roof level, have a long flowering window and are compliant with building regulations fire performance requirements (BRoof(T4) and the GRO Code of Best Practice.
A Sika® NatureRoof Sedum Extensive Green Roof system will typically have a dry weight of 71 kg/m2 and a saturated weight of 107 kg/m2 with an overall build-up height of 110 mm above the roof system. It is installed with a level low organic material growing medium to a minimum settled depth of 80 mm over a 25 mm deep water retention and drainage layer with filter fleece.
Sika® NatureRoof Wildflower Extensive Green Roof systems
Sika® NatureRoof Wildflower Extensive Green Roof systems replicate the aesthetics and biodiversity benefits of a ground level wildflower meadow at roof level, have a long flowering window and are compliant with building regulations fire performance requirements (BRoof(t4) and the GRO Code of Best Practice.
A Sika® NatureRoof Wildflower Extensive Green Roof system will typically have a dry weight of 100 kg/m2 and a saturated weight of 154 kg/m2 with an overall build-up height of 144 mm above the roof system. These weights reflect a Sika® NatureRoof Wildflower Extensive Green Roof system that is installed with a level low organic material growing medium, to a minimum settled depth of 100 mm over a 40 mm deep water retention and drainage layer with filter fleece.
Intensive Green Roofs
Intensive green roof systems are designed to accommodate deeper substrate layers, enabling the support of vegetation such as turf, shrubs, and—where structurally appropriate—small trees. These systems are typically specified for projects requiring accessible roof spaces that incorporate both hard and soft landscaping elements.
Where ecological enhancement is a project objective, certain roof systems may be designed to support biodiversity by incorporating features that encourage habitat creation. These systems should be selected based on ecological assessments or biodiversity action plans relevant to the site.
Key System Features:
> Protection fleece layer: Designed to safeguard the underlying Sika waterproofing membrane.
> Drainage board: 40mm drainage board with integrated filter fleece, intended to retain water and assist in managing rainfall.
> SikaRoof® Intensive Substrate: Formulated to support deeper-rooting vegetation and retain moisture.
> System: Suitable for projects requiring a mix of hard and soft landscaping, where a functional and accessible roof space is part of the design intent
Sika® NatureRoof PV
Sika® NatureRoof PV combines roof mounted solar PV with the benefits of an extensive green roof, creating a BioSolar roof space that both generates renewable energy, enhances biodiversity within the built environment and reduces surface water run-off, whilst the natural evapotranspiration of the green roof provides cooling of the PV panels, increasing solar generated electricity output from the array. Sika® NatureRoof PV can also be installed above a Sika® RetentionRoof Blue Roof System.
Key System Features:
> PV arrays: Both South and East-West facing 10°, 15° or 20°
> Best practice: Follows the GRO Biosolar Best Practice Design Guidance
> Framing system: Adjustable mounting height
