Welcome to GRO
The Green Roof Organisation (GRO) is an independent not-for-profit Trade Association representing the UK Green, Blue and BioSolar Roofing industries.
GRO develops guidance documents and generally promotes the adoption of Green/Blue/BioSolar roofing technologies within the built environments.
GRO represents all elements of the UK Green, Blue and BioSolar Roofing industries including manufacturers of waterproofing systems, suppliers of Green/Blue/BioSolar systems and components, specialist contractors from the roofing and landscape sectors) and associates including other trade associations, NGO’s, insurance companies, academia, ecologists, designers and architects.

Green, BioSolar and Blue Roofs
GREEN ROOFS
Typically consisting of a drainage and water retention board, filter fleece, growing medium (substrate) and planting in the form of seeds, plug plants or pre-grown vegetative blankets. They can be broadly broken down into Intensive or Extensive systems.

BIOSOLAR ROOFS
These roof systems where photovoltaics and green roofs are combined in the same space have become known as ‘Biosolar roofs’. Biosolar roofs provide a distinct advantage as the roof space can become dual purpose.

A Blue Roof is designed to attenuate incident rainfall at roof level, and typically has a green roof as the surface finish.
